Product Design Engineer – Office Furniture (Remote – Philippines)

At DeskMakers, we design and manufacture high-quality, custom office furniture solutions for modern workspaces. We are seeking a Product Design Engineer with a background in office furniture or casegoods design to join our growing global team.

This is a remote contractor position based in the Philippines, working alongside an established Philippines-based engineering team, with collaboration across our U.S. operations. This role will follow pre-agreed working hours to ensure strong communication and alignment.

What You Will Do

• Design and develop office furniture systems including desks, tables, storage, and casework
• Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and production drawings using SolidWorks (or similar)
• Translate concepts, sketches, and client requirements into manufacturable designs
• Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams (Philippines and U.S.)
• Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and drawing revisions
• Prototype and test designs, optimizing for performance, cost, and manufacturability
• Apply knowledge of materials (wood, laminates, metal, hardware) and joinery
• Support CNC programming and production workflows
• Participate in engineering changes (ECNs) and continuous product improvement

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of experience in office furniture, cabinetry, or casegoods design/engineering
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD
• Solid understanding of furniture construction methods and materials
• Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and CNC processes
• Ability to create accurate, production-ready drawings
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote team environment
• Highly self-motivated, organized, and dependable

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in contract office furniture or commercial interiors
• Experience in applying FEA in furniture design
• Familiarity with CNC machining and CAM software
• Knowledge of ANSI/BIFMA standards (a plus)
• Experience with product development lifecycle and prototyping
• Background in cost optimization and value engineering

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field
• OR equivalent hands-on experience in furniture/product design

Work Setup

• 100% Remote (Philippines-based candidates only)
• Work with a dedicated Philippines engineering team
• Must be available during agreed working hours to collaborate with U.S. stakeholders
• Must have a reliable internet connection and home office setup

Engagement Details

• This is an independent contractor role (not an employee position)
• Compensation is hourly, based on actual time worked, with invoicing and payment terms defined in a contractor agreement
• Contractor is responsible for providing their own equipment and workspace
• Must be willing to sign a Services Agreement including confidentiality and intellectual property provisions
• All work product created will be owned by DeskMakers
• Engagement includes flexible termination terms with notice by either party
